A Tranquil Forest Garden Sanctuary
...Where Somthing Wonderful is About to Happen
Nelson Mountain Gardens is a testament to resilience and beauty since 1972. Founded and planted by Clarence and Elaine Barrett, this once expansive garden boasted over 1,300 rhododendrons and 600 species across 3 acres. After some tough environmental challenges the landscape changed. What remains is impressive 15 – 20 feet tall and wide rhododendrons towering amongst the smaller but no less stunning rhododendrons. This ornamental garden longs for the attention it deserves. Every flower tells a story, every story survives its challenge, every challenge transforms the spirit. Be your story.

"A Journey of Self Discovery with Animals"

Hi Everyone! I'm not a writer or a blogger, but my mind and dare say my heart too, talks to me, a lot! Why not write it, profess it, and share it, or ponder around a bonfire. Here, I tell you about our world of Nelson Mountain Gardens, how it ticks, what drives the vision, how I connect with the land, how the spirit moves me....you get it! I post what makes this passionate dream a world you could care about too. What do you care about? What connects you to nature? On a practical note, how do I make it happen? I can't tell you but I can share how it works for me. Sharing is my passion, the gardens wants to share.

All About Us
Hi...I'm Mary, owner and operator of my property in the coastal range of Oregon between Eugene and Florence. But truly, the property owns me. We have a co-dependent relationship of mutual need. I dig out the blackberries smothering the rhododendrons, give them occasional haircuts and they bloom vibrant colors all spring. I like our agreement.
Who are we? A collection of spirits who've come together for a time in our lives to grow organically; human, animal and plants alike. Horses, sheep, dogs, ducks, flowers, vegetables, fruit and wild crafted eats bring us sustainability in spirit.
I've lived here since 1998 in the cabin next to the barn, building a homesteading dream bit by bit. In 2003 I expanded by buying the adjacent property with the historic rhododendron garden. Nelson Mountain Gardens was born in the 70's and today is in the process of being revived for a new life.
